LEAGUE INFORMATION

01. What is the NSSFFL?

The Nigeria Secondary Schools Flag Football League (NSSFFL) is a grassroots league powered by the Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA) and the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) to introduce and grow flag football among secondary school students across Nigeria.

02. Is the NSSFFL affiliated with any official local or international body?

Yes. NSSFFL is organized under NAFA, Nigeria’s recognized governing body for American football and all its variations including Flag Football. NAFA is recognized by and aligns with the International Federation of American Football, IFAF’s flag football standards and partnerships.

03. Are there other Non Government Partners for the NSSFFL?

Yes, NSSFFL is managed by Zibwe Sports on behalf of NAFA. Zibwe also handles the Nigeria Collegiate Flag Football League amongst other strategic league programs on behalf of NAFA

04. Why are your Championships called the Aketi Bowl?

The tournament pays homage to the late Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu CON, SAN who was fondly called "Aketi". He served as the visionary pioneer chairman of NAFA's Board of Trustees, whose unwavering commitment laid the foundation for American football development in Nigeria.

Participation & Eligibility

01. Can my school or team join the NSSFFL?

Yes! Interested schools can join through their state’s activation programs or reach out directly to the league organizers. New teams are welcomed every season.

02. Can girls participate in the NSSFFL?

Absolutely. The league promotes inclusive participation and encourages both boys and girls to play. As a matter of fact, we have a dedicated all star games for women that take place every year after the championships

03. Is the NSSFFL only for public schools?

No. Both public and private secondary schools are eligible, provided they meet the entry requirements for the competition season.

04. How do I know if my state is active in the NSSFFL?

You can check via NSSFFL’s official channels to find out if flag football has been activated in your state.

Player Pathway & Opportunities

01. What happens after the secondary school league?

Yes. Talented players may be scouted for elite programs, national showcases, or transition to collegiate and regional development initiatives under NAFA.

02. What if I’ve graduated from secondary school—can I still play?

Yes! NAFA runs various leagues and platforms for older players across tertiary institutions and community leagues nationwide.

03. How can I volunteer or get involved as a coach or official?

NAFA regularly holds training and certification programs for coaches and game officials. You can express interest via DMs or attend a scheduled clinic near you.
